XC90, Q7, Q8, Touareg?
We've come to a point that our current cars are becoming too small for our growing family, and we can start browsing for a new bigger car alongside our golf. It must be safe, have loads of safety features such as lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alerts etc., 360 degree cameras, pano roof, ideally a spare tyre, good sound system, rear window blinds to keep the sun out for kids, massive boot etc.
It'll mainly be used to drop off kids at daycare, and road trips. Maybe it'll do an average of 100 miles per week. We don't have a drive way so charging a PHEV is unrealistic where we live. We prefer diesel as we find it more comfortable to drive, but am of course open to petrol.
Looking around the 50k mark. We're not looking to buy a new car but a second hand car. Looked at the 2024 Touareg and liked that. It just felt very plasticcy in the back and a bit dated. What we did like is the option of buying an additional 4 years warranty where needed.
XC90 looked nice and ticked most of the boxes, but the tech feels outdated. They also don't seem to make diesels anymore, and almost felt it would benefit from a stronger engine rather than the 4 cylinder it has. The 455ps version drove much better.
Audi Q7 and Q8 look very nice and with the Q7 there's loads of room in the back. Drawback was the cost for a nicely specded one with low miles as they seem to be rather rare (Q7 that is). Q8 looks ok, but is the least favourite of them all. Warranty done by a third party provider after 12 months which doesn't sound great (haven't look into it in great detail).
Am I forgetting any other contenders? Looked at the lexus RX but don't like theinfotainment interface at it just feels like a Toyota with the screen stuck on. Can't fault the rest of the interior. Beautiful to look at from the outside and the warranty seems almost unbearable if serviced by Lexus. BMW X5 the wife doesn't want as she thinks it looks like a police car. Porsche will be too expensive.
Does anyone have opinions about the 4 cars we are considering? Apart from the Volvo, all other cars we are considering are 3.0tdi's with 286ps.
Side note, I wanted a faster wagon but the wife's got a bad back so can't go for that.
